Tips and tricks for using self-tanners!
The sun is peeking out more and more, and spring is taking over. Unfortunately, it will still be a while before we get some actual summer sun, and the tan from last summer has disappeared completely. If a slightly bluish hue on the skin isn’t quite your thing, now is a good time to try self-tanning creams to add a little color to your skin. We have 2 different shades of body cream and self-tanning drops for the face.
Today, we’re focusing on body creams and their use. Self-tanning body cream in the “light” shade is particularly suitable for people with very light skin who want to give their skin a slight tint without anyone thinking they’ve just returned from vacation. With the “medium” shade cream, you may already get surprised looks from colleagues, wondering when you had time to go to the tropics. Using a lighter cream is particularly effective for giving pale skin a natural glow if you use the cream several times with a few days in between.
Here are some good tips for using self-tanners. These tips are certainly helpful for beginners, but can also be helpful for experienced tanners.
1. Prepare the skin.
Before applying self-tanning cream, it is recommended to gently exfoliate the skin with a scrub to remove dead skin cells and ensure a more even tan.
2. Use a tanning mitt and don’t be stingy with the cream.
For beginners, we recommend using a special applicator mitt to apply the cream. This ensures a more even distribution of cream on the skin and keeps your palms clean. Apply the cream generously, but don’t overdo it because it needs to absorb quickly during application. Generally, you will need slightly more cream than regular moisturizing body cream. (You can find the mitt HERE.)
3. Be systematic.
Approach the application of the cream systematically and divide your body into sections. Start, for example, with your feet and legs and then gradually move upwards. Apply 2-3 pumps of cream to the mitt and rub it into one leg, then add more cream and do the same for the other leg and foot. The thigh is larger and will require 3-5 pumps of cream (we understand that everyone’s body is different). You will more or less figure out how much cream you need after the first application. Move on and apply cream to your buttocks, stomach, sides, chest, shoulders, neck, and arms up to the wrists. Don’t touch your palms and face yet; we’ll talk about those separately. For the back, you’ll probably need to ask someone for help, as there will always be a spot in the middle of your back that you can’t reach with your own hand. Again, the mitt will be very helpful, as your helper can use it to apply the cream to your back.

4. What about the palms?
When you’re done applying cream to your body, don’t add more cream to the mitt. Instead, use any residual cream on the mitt to apply cream to one hand and then the other, making sure not to forget your fingers and the spaces between them. You can also lightly rub the mitt over your face, but for the best results, we recommend using drops specifically designed for the face, which you can mix into your face cream. The skin on your face is more delicate and requires separate products. Finally, apply hand cream or moisturizing body cream to your hands and rub it into your palms and wrists up to the elbows, this ensures there will be no streaks.

5. Don’t rush to get dressed!
Now, the best advice is to walk around your home naked for a while. If needed, put on a light and airy robe or dressing gown, but don’t try to put on any tight clothes yet. This is mostly to ensure even tan so that the valuable cream can absorb into your skin and not your clothes. Thirty minutes of waiting time is great, but if you’re in a hurry, 15-20 minutes is good too. Note: Our cream takes about 4-6 hours to develop on the skin because it contains DHA (Dihydroxyacetone) and Erythrulose, which are active natural ingredients. These ingredients react with the amino acids in the upper skin cells, which darken as a result, giving the skin a brownish hue. Thanks to the combined action of these two ingredients, the result is extremely natural and similar to a real tan.
MORE TIPS
- If you plan to shave your body, do so 24 hours before applying the cream to avoid irritation and streaking.
- Our cream has an extremely mild specific odor compared to others (which occurs when DHA reacts with the skin), but if it still bothers you, we recommend tanning in the evening and refreshing yourself in the morning shower. Give yourself a few hours before jumping between the sheets.
- After tanning, we recommend taking a shower rather than a bath. There’s no point in soaking off the tan immediately. Wait at least 6-8 c hours after application to take a shower so that the cream has had enough time to fully work.
- If you want a stronger tan, you can apply the cream again after a couple of days. Our creams have good moisturizing properties and do not burden the skin. The tan lasts up to a week, gradually fading away naturally from the skin.
