Luxurious scented wooden beads

It all started some years ago when we started looking for alternatives to replace our scented sachets filled with plastic beads…

.

Ten years of scented sachets

However, to tell the story, we have to start from the very beginning. The year was 2011 when we launched our scented sachets, which quickly became very popular. Back then plastic was not yet seen as such a big problem, and we also saw it not as a problem but a solution. Plastic absorbed and gave out aroma well, looked good and did everything we wanted it to do. But time went on and sustainable recycling was gaining more and more popularity and we became aware of the need to reduce plastic use. We started to wonder how to make our popular product more environmentally friendly and sustainable. We’re a company producing natural cosmetics and each year we’ve moved towards more sustainable solutions. Half of our products are now packed in either glass or carton and the plastic that we do use is easily recyclable and we urge our customers to recycle all our packaging.

Many „wrong“ solutions

Seemingly easy problem turned out to be a tougher nut to crack and finding the right solution took several years. Our aim was to find a natural and sustainable solution. Ideally we wanted to use residual of some other product so nothing would have to be produced especially for us. We tried to add scent to sea salt and thought it would be cool to afterwards just use the salt in your bathwater. However, salt was not behaving well in the textile bag and was making a mess even when we used the coarsest salt we could find. We also tested ceramics but it did not absorb scent so well. We tried various natural dusty materials inside an envelope but they did not look that great and also didn’t give out enough aroma. We even thought of using saw dust but it has such a strong wooden smell that you can put pure saw dust in a bag and hang it in your car for a woody aroma.

.

All our problems are solved

As a next step from saw dust we found wooden beads. They look great and luxurious, they can be re-scented and they are made from natural wood. Luckily for us we found a local company producing wooden furniture and they make our beads out of residual wood, which would otherwise just be thrown away. This also reduces our ecological footprint as the transport route of beads is incredibly short. They really do solve all our problems: the beads look great, give out aroma well, are sustainable and made out of residual wood and can be re-scented.

New scented wooden beads

So, here they are! New addition to JOIK Home & Spa range! Our very popular scented sachets are now available in a more sustainable version. Luxurious scented wooden beads are perfect for perfuming small spaces like cars, wardrobes, drawers, bathrooms, etc.

There are different ways to use the scented wooden beads:

• Place the beads (we recommend 4-8 beads) in a textile bag and hang in a car, wardrobe or bathroom;

• Add one or several beads to drawers, gym-bags or luggage;

• Remove the lid from the jar and place the jar on a shelf to diffuse the wonderful aroma.

You can also leave the rest of the beads into the glass jar and use them once the first batch has lost its scent. Wooden beads are made of Estonian birchwood that comes from wood industry residue and are packed into an environmental friendly glass jar. The package includes 15 scented wooden beads and a textile bag for hanging them. Wooden beads can be re-scented.

We offer a selection of 6 popular aromas: Forever Fresh, Grapefruit & Mandarin, Primavera, La Boheme, Cherie and Lumiere du Soleil.
